The goal for any young horse is to be well educated, enthusiastic in his discipline and easy to handle, transport and ride. A foal’s education begins with his mother at birth and every contact with humans marks him in some way. You can start very young, getting the foal used to what awaits him in the long run in his relationship with the human being, for better or for worse.
Perhaps the most common mistake is to buy a foal and behave with it as if it were another human being. Games in the paddock, treats hidden in pockets, hugs and kisses are some of the common treats of the owner who wants a “pet” type horse.
Over time, the horse that perceives that the human being is afraid or the one that learns that by insisting or pushing, he gets what he wants, becomes a very difficult brute to deal with. The horse has to respect his groom and rider, but at the same time not be afraid of them. It is necessary to set limits and behavioral guidelines. Calmness and patience are fundamental, it is necessary to be firm in many aspects but always from the logic. You should not try to be neither the best friend nor the foal’s mother.

Rope and entrecuerda of the horse
They are between 90 and 120 centimeters long, which is the maximum allowed by the Dressage Regulations, although there are longer ropes for working at home. They are usually thin and end in a stretch of cord.
In all equestrian disciplines, the abuse of the riding crop is prohibited. If we refer to show jumping, it is considered as such to raise the arm above the horse’s head to apply the punishment or to do it more than three times. In both cases, this implies the elimination of the pair.
We will include here the whips used to give rope (riding crop whips), those used for carriages, those used for “natural dressage” -which are the ones I personally use the most for ground work-, each one has its own application and technique.
How to measure a horse with a rope?
Take a piece of “pita” type rope (a halter can be used) and measure it from the elbow to the fetlock. Without moving the hand from the elbow, rotate the rope until it is aligned with the withers. Whatever protrudes from the withers is what the foal has left to grow. The final height of the foal will be four times this measurement.
How to increase muscle mass in a horse?
To muscle properly, horses need 2 g of protein per kg of live weight. For example, a 500 kg horse in intense activity needs 1002 g of protein per day (*). In addition, this protein must be of high quality, i.e. it must contain amino acids essential for the horse.
How to make the horse walk backwards?
What we must do is to slowly let go of him and make him follow us slowly, let him walk while he gets used to the weight and pressure of the saddle. As we notice that he feels comfortable, we tighten the girth a little more, until it is tight enough, as when we ride him.

It is better if it is closed to reduce the horse’s distractions. The necessary equipment is as follows:Basic EquipmentSupplementary Equipment

They do not reach maturity until they are 4 years old when they are no longer foals (fillies in the case of females), at this age they begin to be tamed and ridden. At 4 years of age they are considered adult horses, and tend to calm down. A horse in good health can be ridden well into its 20s.
How can a horse be tamed?

How to rope a foal for the first time
This is a flexible rod, usually covered with cloth or leather, sometimes topped with a braid of rope or a leather flap. It is used by riders to whip the horses.
This instrument, besides serving to stimulate the animal, is used as an extension of the rider’s own body. In this way it can reach parts of the equine’s body so that with a light touch the horse maintains attention on the exercise being performed or to increase the pace. It is therefore used as reinforcement.
It is important to be aware that it should never be used as a punishment, but as an aid to communicate with horses. That is why we must think about it before using it, as we mentioned at the beginning of the article. Our horse should respond to the stimuli of the whip with respect, never with fear.
It is very similar to the previous one, but longer, around 150 and 230 cm, since it is mainly used to control the horse’s movements and lead it at a distance. For example, when roping in a round arena and the animal goes in circles.
