The majority of golf courses and putting greens currently being built use different varieties of artificial turf as an alternative to expensive and uneconomical natural grass. The technological advance of artificial turf has made that even the most skeptical players recognize the similarity of characteristics of artificial turf for the practice of golf compared to natural grass. And while achieving the shades and natural feel was an easy task, it was not so easy to get the approval of professional golf players.
The great savings in maintenance and money that artificial turf represents is making that most of the times artificial turf is chosen to install a golf course, putting green or minigolf in private gardens, residential, country clubs or sports centers.
The models used for greens and putting greens are usually 16 mm high and are made of curly monofilaments that are treated against UVA rays. They are usually models of artificial turf with a very high density, about 84,000 stitches per m2 and 5,500 Dtex. Do not hesitate to ask for the technical data sheets of our artificial grass models for putting green.
How to make a golf green at home
After a few weeks practicing our golf at home, with all kinds of exercises to recreate the real game sensations. Finally, we can again enjoy our favorite sport on the course.
For an affordable difficulty, set up a circular course, playing the holes so that we trace a circle. (The next level will be to complete a whole round and then another in the opposite direction).
When facing a side slope putt, we should aim for the top of the hole, not the start of the hole (as if it were a straight putt). This will increase our chances of holing the putt as well as facilitate the return putt if there is one.

The unwritten rules of golf are practically infinite. We have them on the course, in the clubhouse, when warming up, and also when practicing on the putting green, certain codes of conduct must be observed. Let’s look at a few to consider when practicing the putter:
Don’t bring a “ball sack”: This is not the driving range. There is no need to bring a bucket of 50 balls. Three should be enough, but we’ll give you an allowance: five balls maximum.
Let the competitive ones pass: Putting competitions are always good and an enjoyable way to practice and have a good time with friends. If one catches up, let them pass. It will only take a minute. Then, you can go back and resume your practice. Oh, and because you’re in a competition, don’t go celebrating every putt as if it were a goal in a soccer stadium.
Problems with wedges: On some practice greens “chipping” is allowed. That is… chipping, not mid-distance wedges or flop shots. Make short, controlled, pitch and run shots, i.e., moving the ball underneath. No lifting. Repair your divots, and remember that on a very congested green the putt is the priority and not the wedges. If you are not alone there, forget them and practice your putting.
Putting green for house
Once the shapes and sizes were decided, it was time to think about the construction materials. I thought of different alternatives. And the one I liked the most was to put a first layer of American pallets and then a DM plank of almost 3 cm. With that I got the Putting Greene to have a correct height, but at the same time, when you step on it you have the feeling of stepping on a natural grass green. That is thanks to the pallets. It gives it the “fluffy touch”. I think it was the right choice.
The moment of construction was the most laborious and fun at the same time. We had to find eight pallets that had the same length and width, but, above all, the same height. They sent us some pallets that fit perfectly. Next were the MDF boards. They were cut to a certain size to fit them in the van. Getting them to the store was a real odyssey, worthy of Ulysses, but as always, fun. The measurements are well taken… the DMs and the pallets were just right!
As soon as we received it, we left the grass spread out on the pallet frame for several days, so that the waves would disappear. Finally it was time to set up. We couldn’t go wrong. We grabbed nails, a couple of hammers and got to nailing. We attached the DM to the pallets, creating a solid, immovable structure. Then, we put double layer tape all over the surface of the structure and spread the grass again, now definitively.
