What is a pastoral search committee?

Songs of the Child David in Commemoration at Charras

Pray that committee members will carry out their duties with supernatural discernment, wisdom and strength (As with King Solomon, ask God to give us the wisdom to know what to do and the courage to follow through).

1 Peter 5: 8-9 – “Practice self-control and be on your guard. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, knowing that your brothers throughout the world are enduring the same kind of sufferings.”

Pray for God’s clear direction on how the team should conduct their research and selection. Ask God that He would be the one to focus the committee’s attention on the right person and that the committee would hear God’s instruction clearly.

1- Actions must have the capacity to interest and mobilize the people as a whole. In fact, they must be actions that by themselves arouse people’s attention, that provoke an unconscious reaction, something that allows overcoming indifference and progressive evangelization.

2- The actions must respond to the sensibility and culture of the people and must be “felt by the people”. Only in this way they will feel called not only “from the outside by the ministry of the Church, but from their own interiority to feel interpreted in their deepest religious feelings.

4- The action as sign-gesture-word must reach the totality of the person (sensibility, intelligence, will and affectivity); Evangelization is not a form of indoctrination but of vital experience of the faith that is announced.

5- The action must be carried out in such a way that it is an authentic experience of faith of the people of God. This does not contrast with the fact that the opportunities that are chosen can also be religious, cultural and social. All can be part of the experience of faith, depending on how they are proposed and carried out.

Greetings from the Caño Negro CAB

Our report is not attractive.    We have not been able to find an acceptable candidate for the church, although there was a candidate with promise.      We appreciate all suggestions coming from church members.    We have investigated each with an interview or called at least three people to give us reference as to the person suggested.      What follows is our confidential report concerning the candidates under consideration:

Abraham: Some references report that he took another woman as a wife with his wife’s permission.    But he never slept with another man’s wife.    At the same time he seems to have offered his wife to other men.

Moses: A humble and meek man.      He does not communicate well.      Sometimes he stutters.    We know he has times when he gets vigorously angry and reacts drastically.      It is said that he fled his previous vocation on a murder charge.

David: The most promising leader of all until he was found with his neighbor’s wife.      Rumor has it that he plotted the husband’s death in order to marry his beloved.      Later, he repented heartily.
