Enrique Valenzuela, general coordinator of the State Population Council (COESPO), informed that state officials and representatives of organizations involved in the care of people in mobility conditions, met at the State Government Representation in Ciudad Juarez with the purpose of evaluating the current situation of migrants in the state.
Other points that were evaluated, according to the official, were the capacity and the type of basic services provided by the shelters run by authorities, religious groups and civil society organizations.
The Sphere Project Board admitted Plan International as a new member, elected Erik Johnson as its new Chair and committed to working towards greater coherence between quality and accountability initiatives in the humanitarian sector.
The Sphere Project Board accepted Plan International’s application during its meeting on 18-19 May 2011 in Johannesburg, South Africa. With the addition of Plan International, the Sphere Project Board now consists of 17 member organizations (see list here).
Plan International’s official representative to the Sphere Board is Unni Krishnan, Plan’s Disaster Response Policy Coordinator. Krishnan was already a member of the Sphere Board in 2009-2010.
“As I see it, my role will be to be of service to others,” Johnson said after his election. He pledged to lead and work on behalf of the Board to help the Sphere Project meet the challenges before it. “Erik will lead the Sphere Project into a better future,” said Van Zutphen, who assured that Johnson will have the support of the Board and its member organizations.
